A peek into my real life

Hey there folks, what's happening.  Sorry for the inactivity of late, it's been pretty bad really, and I'm somewhat ashamed of it.  However, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

First, here are my excuses:

  • I'm a full time student (15 credits/semester)
  • I work 33 hours a week (which equates to 38 when you include 5 1-hour lunches)
  • I've been getting my armies ready for tournaments (at the expense of sleep)
  • My wifey is working on her thesis in grad school and needs more help around the house
  • I'm still training for a half-ironman
As you can imagine, my life is pretty crazy busy.  The benefits of this are that I've learned to be super efficient with my time, and I'm generally a really productive guy.  The drawback is that my blog is suffering because all those things listed above kind of have to come before blogging.

The good news however, is that I'm quitting my job on Wednesday.  I recently got a scholarship that pays more than my crappy cashier job at Wal-Mart would for a semester, and since I was planning on quitting in the summer anyways, this allows the opportunity for me to stop some of the craziness.  What does this mean for Delusions of Grandeur?

Probably not a whole lot, except for hopefully more activity.  In the past two weekends, I've played in tournaments, and will be giving full length tournament reports for them.  There are also lots of upcoming events that I'm somewhat excited for as well, which I'll be writing about.  I can actually spend some more time on the neglected Orks for the Adepticon Team Tournament, and hopefully get my Blood Angels finished so I can start doing a couple battle reports for Jawaballs (since I've been slacking on his blog as well).

So, stay tuned.  Hopefully I can get the team tournament report finished soon, and I can resume blogging as usual.  :)

Life, that silly thing that gets in the way of our fun. Look forward to your return to blogging.

Half marathon is intense. What's your training regiment like?

The fact that I have discovered in a single instant that you work as a WalMart cashier, and that you are quitting said job, is upsetting. Discovering the promise of purchasing $30 of small odds and ends with nothing but a bag of nickels only to have it yanked away. . .this is a pain I cannot describe in words.

Nike: I'm kind of all over the place in my working out. I don't really have any reason to think I can ever win any size of event (since I'm pretty severely asthmatic) but I've always had a pretty good background with exercise. I'm more concerned with being healthy, and I do like competition, even if it's just with myself and my own times.

Half marathon would be easy enough for me to finish right now- it's the 56 miles of bike/1.2 miles of swim that come before the 3 miles of run that I'm most concerned about finishing. I swam in high school, and ran, but I'm pretty abysmal at biking. Not much efficiency to be found, I'm afraid.

As such, I try to do about 2-2.5 hours of cardio twice a week, usually trying to bike 20-25 or so miles then running 5 or 6 directly afterward (I'm somewhat slow at both, lol). On surrounding days, I lift for about an hour (3 exercises each muscle group I'm doing that day), and on Fridays I try to swim for about an hour.

And Saturdays + Sundays I take off, every time. Because I don't want to get burned out, and by then my body is pretty damn tired.
