Tonight I was able to play against Tony's Sisters of battle in a 2500 point matchup. We've been trying to play since I moved here, and it's never really happened. It was a good battle though- he's a good player, and I have almost zero experience against Sisters, since so few people play them. This won't quite be a battle report- more like a highlights segment :-p
Hey, I'm Xaereth, welcome to Delusions of Grandeur! This is a blog dedicated (mostly) to competitive play in miniature gaming. I used to play 40k competitively, but have since started to play Warmachine exclusively. Mostly just battle reports these days. We'll see if I ever make time for more. Heh.

The Nature of 'Ard Boyz
Well, it's just about 'Tournament Season' here, with 'Ard Boyz going on for the next 2 months, and after that BOLSCON, followed shortly by Tacticon. I'm sure 'Ard Boyz Fantasy will be coming up as well, though I'm equally sure I'll fail at it again like I did at the semis last year :-P Anyways, I just wanted to talk a little about my thought process in building an 'Ard Boyz list, since I don't really think it's as straightforward as building a list at 2000 or less points.

A Blood Angels Death Star?
I've been playing around with 'Ard Boyz lists lately, and come up with a lot of weird stuff that's mostly useless. Not saying you can't win using lists like these, but I'm not under the impression they're going to be good 'take all comers list'.

'Ard Boyz huh?
Well, I was recently perusing my local gaming store's forums, and saw a post someone made about 'Ard Boyz coming up soon. Turns out, we only have a few weeks til it starts. It kinda took me by surprise, and suddenly, I'm wondering what I'm going to take for it.

The Hive Tyrant Dilemma
After making all sorts of lists for Blood Angels, I've encountered one glaring flaw in all of them that I haven't had to deal with as of yet- Hive Tyrants. I recently bought the new Nid codex (took me a while) and while I was flipping through it and didn't see much I hadn't heard of or seen already, I discovered what nasty things people can do with Tyrants in this new book. I quickly looked around the internets, hoping desperately that the Tyrants were too expensive to belong in competitive lists, but my worst fears were confirmed: lots of people bring them, and even if they aren't 'supposed' to belong in competitive lists, my own Blood Angels have almost no answer for these stupid things, making them a huge dilemma for me.

A few tweaks, and another game
Today I was able to get off work and head down to my local Nerd Store to play yet another game with my Blood Angels. This marks Game 4, where I should start understanding how the army should work in general, and start feeling the strengths and weaknesses so I can begin really maximizing my lists.

A compilation
I've decided to compile all my thoughts about Blood Angels into one page, with links to my random postings. Hope this is helpful to someone!
The Death Eater Spam List, and how it did
I hope you don't think I'm making a reference to Harry Potter, with my title. Rather, it refers to my new list and style of play with Blood Angels that I tried last night (against 'Leaf Blower' Competitive Guard). In general, it's a conglomeration of World Eaters (Berzerkers w/ Furious Charge) and Death Guard (Plague Marines w/ Feel No Pain and Meltas everywhere). Guess I could have named them 'World Guard'... whatever.
First, here's the list I played:

Foolishness with Wolves
Well, as you know (if you've been reading my posts on here with much loyalty), I've been trying to make Blood Angels work the way they did in the old codex. I haven't given up that pursuit at all, but all this thinking about static fire support in devestator squads, coupled with strong assault elements and lots of rhinos/razorbacks, made me think of Space Wolves. So I made a list.

The Hypocricy of Honor Guards
A few days ago, I got game 2 in for the new Blood Angels. I used the exact list I was talking about in my last post: 4 rhinos, with various cool stuff inside, an assault squad, 5 melta bikes, and an ineffective scout squad. Here's a few things I learned (or simply affirmed):

Blood Angels- the new Death Guard
Well, yesterday I got done with my first playtest game with Blood Angels. It was a planetstrike game, so the rules were a little off, and Jason and me were playing against a TON of heavy vehicles (we were playing vs. Tau and Orks). A few highlights:

More Blood Angel Love
Well, it's been a bit since my last Blood Angel 'article', but don't think I haven't been thinking about them or making lists- tomorrow I even plan on playing my first game with them. It'll be a 'team game' in which I play alongside Salamanders, and with friends, so I'm not really concerned with making my list super duper competitive, though I will try to do what I can. Mostly, I want to see what sort of synergy I can get out of my troops. But, that's not really what I want to talk about today.
Today I want to talk about random ideas, and about what direction I see my Blood Angels heading. I have specific goals that I never really accomplished with the new PDF that I want to make sure I do this time. So, this post is going to be more about random thoughts I'm having on Blood Angels in general.

Clash for Colorado, part 1.5 of 2!
Sorry for the delay on this one folks! School + work > gaming.
But onto the reports! We last left off with me besting a khador list. After this round we all stopped for lunch, the shop ordered pizza with our entrance fee which was nice. Tops off to Jeremy, who managed to eat a full 10 pieces of pizza! That man can pack them down!

The Math of the Missile Launcher
I'm not sure how many times I've heard someone say something like "yeah, but 4 missile launchers in one devestator squad is overkill for killing vehicles, you only really need 2 or 3 per squad, max." I DO know that if the number of times I've heard that said is 'x', then I've been annoyed x times.
