I've played with Kommandos a few times now, and I have to say, I'm not really a fan. Even against guard, where they would theoretically shine the most, they sort fail. I'll outline in this post why I think they aren't as efficient as other choices.
Hey, I'm Xaereth, welcome to Delusions of Grandeur! This is a blog dedicated (mostly) to competitive play in miniature gaming. I used to play 40k competitively, but have since started to play Warmachine exclusively. Mostly just battle reports these days. We'll see if I ever make time for more. Heh.

Making a Tournament List
Lately I've been trying to hammer out lists for my team's Ork army for upcoming Adepticon. Please don't get me wrong- I'm not convinced it's going to be a 'balanced' event at all, but my friends have trusted me with making the lists, and I'm trying to deliver. Before I talk about why it's harder than you would think, I figured I'd instead mention my methodology in making a competitive take-all-comers tournament list.

Reflections on Orks: Where does their power come from?
Orks have some pretty good stuff, I'll be the first to admit. I'll also be the first to admit that there are a *ton* of obstacles that Orks have to deal with in order to be a competitive army. This post will be my thoughts on exactly what makes the greenskins tick (not anything too deep, I promise!), and maybe some other stuff.

Orks vs. Double Land Raiders: A quasi-battle report
Last night I finally got my first game in with my Ork list, against my friend Vince's double Land Raider list w/ Khan. He recently got Best General at Tacticon, which is the 44 person tournament we just had, so he's not a bad player by any stretch of the word. I wanted to try and see how Orks could do against double Land Raiders, and Terminator spam.

An Ork List, 1850ish
Well, after mulling over what I want to do for the Team Tournament in Adepticon, I decided the best way for me to get a feel for Orks was to make an army list with them, then make the team aspects around them. So, here's the list:

Orks: What Rocks
Orks have a lot of great things in their codex: 6-point boyz, cheap effective HQ's, great hard-hitters, and speed all make them into a difficult army to deal with. Today I'll touch on some things that I really like about the Ork Codex.

Orks: What sucks
In this article, I'm going to talk about a few things I personally think Orks are terrible at. There are a lot of things in my opinion, but in order to make good army lists, the first step is to identify the terrible aspects of a Codex. Lots of misconceptions are had about orks to be had, hopefully this will help debunk a few of them for the few people out there who actually read this blog, lol :)

Cool new tournament news
Well, I just got finished with Tacticon, and tournament season is basically over until Feb. when Genghis Con gets here. However, in one weekend, three somewhat exciting/intriguing pieces of news found their way to me.

Tacticon Tournament Report
This weekend was Tacticon, one of the semi-annual 'big' events in the area. There are usually anywhere from 40-60 players in the 40k, and somewhere in the 30 to 40 range in the Fantasy the next day. Since I hadn't painted my Fantasy in time, I decided to make it a day trip down to the con for 40k. I took a bunch of pictures too, feel free to click on them to make them bigger.

Dark Elf Musings: It's true.
What's true, you ask? Or maybe you saw that I was trying to trick you into asking that, and decided not to let me manipulate your thoughts. Either way, the truth is hard to miss: Cold One Knights suck. More specifically, I think cavalry in general suck now. This is going to be a post about my failure at 'Ard Boyz, and why I think it happened.
Tournament Results
Well, depite my lack of postings, I've played a couple tournaments lately. I'll just tell you a quick summary of the results:
