Hey there folks, today I'm driving the 1000 or so miles that separates me from Chicago, and Adepticon. Funtimes! I recently discovered the Ranking HQ's website, and looked myself up. Heh, funtimes, right?
Hey, I'm Xaereth, welcome to Delusions of Grandeur! This is a blog dedicated (mostly) to competitive play in miniature gaming. I used to play 40k competitively, but have since started to play Warmachine exclusively. Mostly just battle reports these days. We'll see if I ever make time for more. Heh.

Something the Internets have never seen: a Grey Knights list :-o
What's up folks? How's the blogosphere treating you today? It's pretty good here on my side- I leave for Adepticon tomorrow, along with lots of other bloggers around the world (well, at least the States). So, you're in for a somewhat boring time this weekend, though I'm sure the material that will be produced from the events will make the lack of reading material worth it.
Anyways, today I wanted to talk about the Grey Knight list I think looks fun (and soulless/spammy) but able to potentially outshoot most other armies, and still have decent close combat prowess. I suppose we can go into details after the list, here's what I'm thinking though:

This week on Delusions of Grandeur
Hey Folks! How's the day? Figured I'd give a little bit of an update for me, since this last week was essentially: Battle Report. This week is a big one for me. The Adepticon 40k Championships are going down this weekend, and a couple friends and I are headed up to

Tournament Report: Feast of Blades FINALS (with pictures!)
Howdy folks! How's it going? So, I've been talking up this Feast of Blades tournament a lot, and won my qualifiers a few weeks ago. Here's the link to that article. The finals (at Stonebridge games in Longmont, CO) were last weekend, and I brought the exact same list as I did for the qualifiers. In fact, I hadn't played for the 2 weeks wait it took between the Qualifiers and the Finals, due to a mix of school and spring break.
So, it was a fun tournament. Lots of really good players- I mean, everyone who was there had taken either 1st or 2nd at their own qualifiers in order to get there. Of the people who qualified originally, ZERO of them opted out and let someone with a lower place go in their stead. Lots of really good players.
The tournament made use of Battle Points and

Feast of Blades is over
Pretty fun day, I'm beat. That beer afterwards did me in. Three great games, three great opponents. I got to play Sir Biscuit from 3++ in the first round, with his Vendetta/Plasma spam list. Then I got to play a Vulkan mech gunline list with a ton of S7. And after that, a capture and control mission against my worst nightmare in that scenario: Skimmer Eldar. Not my day for favorable matchups, certainly. Then again, what should I have expected, playing against people who had all won three of their previous games in order to qualify?
Anyways, I have lots of pictures, and I won't spoil my end result for those of you who want to read the battle reports a little later. It'll be in the next couple days hopefully.

Today I'm playing in the Feast of Blades Finals. I qualified a few weekends ago. Here's the link for the full battle report. Here's the url for the Feast of Blades blog. Wish me luck! Update and full tourney report including batreps for all 3 games and lots of pictures coming soon!

Weekly Battle Report #11: Salamanders vs. Ironclad Spam (With Pictures!)
Hey there folks, bet you forgot about the Weekly Battle Reports! I've actually been doing pretty well at giving you battle reports weekly, though they haven't been labeled as such. Lots of tournaments have been the name of the game lately, though this week gets to see the return of my erstwhile Salamanders. If you want more reports of the Salamanders, there is a Battle Reports Link on the top right side of the blog. Lots and lots of reports on there, actually, not limited to just Salamanders.
This battle was played over 2 months ago, so expect a little rust from my memory on what exactly happened. First, let's go with the lists:

What's going on in my 40k life
Well folks, I've been posting up random lists/tactics/ideas for a while, but I haven't really talked about my life as a gamer, and what I'm currently trying to do (i.e. my current goals/aspirations/bullshit). So that's what this is about- not a whole lot of 'how to become uber' content today. Mostly, I want people to be up to speed on what I'm doing, so they can understand the relevance of some of my posts.
So, where to begin. I guess I'll start with tournaments, since tournaments are the primary reason I play 40k. There are a few tournaments going on soon, as in 2 in the next 3 weekends. They are:
Adepticon is a little bit bigger, though I'll still be bringing the Wolfstar albeit an 1850 list instead for the champtionships. Likely tweaks include: taking

Dark Eldar- More List Tampering
Hey folks, hows it going? Good for me, the Nuggets are finally doing well after being liberated from Melo, and they've won 8 of 10 games. How does that equate to my gaming life? It means that I spend more time watching a newly reinvented NBA team than I actually do blogging. Other than that, it doesn't mean a whole lot, really.
So, I've been playing around with my Dark Eldar list ideas. I want to be able to play Dark Eldar at all the big upcoming events (i.e. BoLSCON and Nova), and I want a tweaked list for both of those. The list I originally had was condemned (rightfully) as soulless/uncreative. The

Email in: 1750 Vanilla Marine List
Hey there folks, for this fine Friday, we have an email asking for comments on a Marine list. So, let's take a look at the email first, then I'll talk about it afterward.
The Email:
Just wanted to say hi and show you my current list. Please do post it.

Feast of Blades Qualifier Tournament Report
Hey folks, I wrote up a battle report on my Feast of Blades experience, with all 3 games included. However, it's on Jawaball's blog and not this one, so I figured I'd link you over there, if you actually read my stuff but not his.
Here's the link. Let me know what you think, either here or over on the 'big time' blog :-p

Dark Eldar Project: First Raider Completed- Pictures!
Cool, so if you've been following this blog, you might know that I've decided to start Dark Eldar. Though my list is as yet slightly uncertain, I know I'll want a raider. So, here are some pictures of the first thing I painted for this army. It took me like 7 hours total. Those 5 guys riding it took up a ton more than I expected. Anyways, hope you like it. Army Profile: Wolfstar
Hey there folks, how's it going? Today I wanted to do something I've been wanting to do for a while- talk about my Wolfstar list, and what I think makes it tick. It's also a good reference that I can link to, so I don't need to talk about it in every post to give context. I might even add some pictures to it!

Feast of Blades Results
Yesterday I went to the statewide competition Feast of Blades (heh, almost spelled it 'fest' of blades, which is as apt a description as any, I suppose). It's kind of a cool concept- each LGS in the state of Colorado holds a qualifier tournament, in which people play against each other in an attempt to qualify for the 'finals' that will come two weeks later. Only two from each shop can qualify.

Dark Eldar- List Construction
Well, I won't lie to you- Dark Eldar are a whole new monster to me, and I've been trying my hand at list building of late. Here's a link to my first 'published' attempt at them. I got a lot of accusations (like, two lol) that the list was souless, not creative, etc.
I think I agree to an extent- it's pretty spammy, and lacks anything that gives it some real character. In fact, I'm not convinced it would work extremely well. It might, but again, it might not. It would likely depend on how well the 'Incubistar' did. Which depends on having dependable transports, which the Dark Eldar do not have, really.
So, in this post I'll be talking about what I think Dark Eldar need in order to be competitive, and at the end, a list that is hopefully less soulless but potentially far stronger than the original.

Adepticon Change of Plans
Well, the time comes in every hobbyist's life when you just have to shake your head, and admit: "There's no way we can paint 4000 points of Orks + their display boards in a single month. Just not gonna happen."
Which is what we recently did. Our orks are all assembled, and about 40 of them are actually painted. The others... well, it turns out nobody cared enough to work hard or fast enough to actually get them done in time. Ah well, we can always do them next year. (right, lol)
That does however mean that I have Saturday free for Adepticon.
