Warmachine Battle Report 48: Baldur1 and Tanith at a Steamroller, 75 points

Image result for karliquin's game knight

Hello all, another tournament report for you today! I've been playing very little lately, and the games that I have been playing have been somewhat silly affairs, mostly including Krueger2 and the Celestial Fulcrum.
However, I wanted one more shot at Tanith + Baldur1 in ADR, so that's what I took. I hadn't played either list since the LAST tournament in November. That meant I'd be a little rusty, but I wasn't too concerned.

(that isn't to say I should have been concerned, just that I wasn't, haha!)

Let's jump right into it!

Warmachine Battle Report 47: Baldur1 and Tanith at "Dessert of Daggers" 75 points, 4 games total

Image result for gryphons games and comicsHello all, it's been a while since my last post. Like, 2 months or so. Who knows if it'll be that long again until I post again. Life has been very busy, with mandatory overtime at work and other stuff. I have been taking the time to play games, I just don't post about them on this blog. Not lately at least.

I spent a full month (October) playing almost exclusively Grayle. He's actually pretty strong! One (decent) theme force away from breaking into the tournament scene permanently.

During the time I was gone, I've played 3 tournaments. I'll probably do some sort of picture/info dump on the first two tournaments, since I don't want to lose those photos. I even got 3rd place at a tournament with a Grayle/Krueger2 pairing. HA!

However, I've really been looking forward to the "Dessert of Daggers" event held by my friend Josh Nordstrom at Gryphon Games & Comics. I think the name came from back in the day when the Feast of Blades (big local con) was in October, and this was the follow-up tournament. It's Gryphon's premier tournament of the year, with lots of cool prize support and a low entry fee.

This was likely to be my last semi-large tournament of the year, what with the holidays coming up. So, I brought my best. Yes, you guessed it: Baldur1 and Tanith in ADR.

Warmachine Batrep 42: Baldur1 at a 1-caster 75-point Steamroller! (4 total games)

They have a Cheyenne location now too- they're taking over the world :)
Howdy all,
I've got an interesting report for you today! I played at a tournament at Gryphon Games and Comics in Fort Collins, CO (which is my old stomping grounds, if you didn't already know). They just got done with a journeyman league, and were having a 75-point tournament as the culmination of their efforts.

The catch: only one list. I was forced to choose between Wurmwood and Baldur1. In the end, I guess I've felt kind of bored of Wurmwood lately, and I enjoy almost all of my games using Baldur1. And, because any event allowing only one list was going to be prone to mismatches of one sort or another, I decided to take Baldur1.

Better to enjoy 4 games in a row than kind of dread my own feat turn 4 games in a row (people complain about the feat a lot, and take like 20 minutes to figure out what they want to do - I just get to gawk while they do it - kind of an uncomfortable situation if you ask me). At any rate, here's my list:

Warmachine Batrep 34: Krueger2 makes his debut vs. Skorne

Image result for hedonism bot
Hedonism bot = Rasheth
Howdy everyone,

I've managed to get a couple more games in since my last post. For some reason, my area is fraught with Skorne players, and as such I'm likely to play them a lot. This post is no exception - two different days, two different Skorne players.

Today I played my favorite caster in MKII - Krueger2. He got nerfed a little (his feat no longer prevents charges due to the SPD debuff), but still does some really good things. I'm definitely more of a control-style player, and if K2 is anything, he's a control caster.

Warmachine Batrep 31: Circle at Feast of Blades, Day 2 (Team Tournament), Lots of Pictures!

What's up what's up! I have another set of Circle Batreps for you today from my recent foray to the Feast of Blades! If you look at Batrep 30, you can read my harrowing journey through the morass that was the Divide and Conquer event, and my single Iron Gauntlet game against Lylyth2. I'll spoil what happened on Friday after the break, and set up the team tournament. It's kind of awesome, actually. 4 reports total today, with my usual load of pictures and stuff.

Warmachine Batrep 30: Circle at Feast of Blades, Day 1 (D&C event + Iron Gauntlet), Lots of Pictures!

Whew! Just got back from Feast of Blades, and I'm kind of wiped out! I played a total of 14 games, and took pictures for all of them! I won't spoil the results for you all, so you can be in suspense the whole time :-p

I'll be writing up three different posts: Days 1, 2, and 3. It'll take me a while to get through all of the games, but I'll get there! I only took three different lists, though I think that at least one of those will be changing in the future. I'll let you figure out which one for yourself, haha ;)

Let's get to the jump, and we can begin to unpack the SIX games I played on Day 1 of Feast of Blades.

Warmachine Batrep 28: Circle (Krueger2 and Cassius) vs. Legion (Saeryn) and Skorne (Zaal) 50 Points, Lots of Pictures!

Howdy, folks! Another two reports here, in my attempt to get ready for Feast! I'm only taking my three "main" casters lately, which may be a little boring to you all, but I need the practice! I'm still a noob, and though I feel like I'm getting better, there is still so much I need to learn. One of these games is evidence of that :)

I faced off against my buddy Vince and his Zaal list once again, but first I got the pleasure to play against a new opponent (new to me, but he's been playing for a long time) named Casey, who has been playing Saeryn and Lylyth2 nonstop lately. I was excited to get a game in against him, as Legion is a faction I don't really know much about.

Let's jump in!

Warmachine Batrep 27: Circle (Morvahna2) vs. Skorne (Zaal) 50 Points, lots of pictures!

Cool model, but not mine or Vince's :)
Howdy, folks! Today I have only one report for you. I was hoping to get in a game against Josh "Newbstomp" Nordstrom as well, but I got there a little late, and my opponent didn't want to play with a clock, so my first game went long enough to preclude any other games, more's the pity.

At any rate, you've no doubt noticed that Vince is a regular opponent of mine. Today he wanted to experiment with Zaal and two Archidons. With Last Stand on them, they'll put out some ridiculous damage. I was excited to get some experience against one of my personal favorite Skorne casters.

For myself, I brought Morv2. Vince had never played against her, and she's generally going to be my Skorne drop, so I thought it was a good idea. She's a good caster, but I won't be very good with her unless I actually practice sometimes!

Warmachine Batrep #25: IMC Tournament Report - 50 points, three casters (Circle - Morv2, Krueger2, Cassius) (with pictures!)

NOT my picture - I stole it shamelessly from Facebook. Pretty awesome kid!
Last weekend (September 13, specifically), I went to the Inter-Mountain Cup (IMC) in Ogden, Utah. The IMC is a Masters-style tournament that happens twice every year in the same area (it can apparently change venues, so long as said venue is near to Salt Lake). It has 64 people attend it every year, and it's a 1-day event.

Let's say that again.

It's a 1-day event. That means 6 total games of Warmachine without a single break, even for dinner. You play 6 games straight.

This was my first Masters event, and I brought Circle (my only army). Lists and such after the break.

Warmachine Batrep #24: SR Tournament Report - 50 points, two casters (Circle - Morv2 + Krueger2) (with pictures!)

Howdy, everyone! Today I have a tournament report from a local(ish) Steamroller event I attended last Saturday. This was my 3rd tournament since I've gotten back into the game, and would be great practice for the IMC next weekend.

I only own Circle, so that was obviously going to be my faction. However, I've been toying with several different lists and casters. I finally decided on Krueger2 and Morvahna2 as my two casters, since they're two of my three casters I will be taking to IMC next weekend (Cassius being my 3rd). Lists and reports after the jump!

Warmachine Batrep #23: Circle (Cassius) vs. Syntherion, Rasheth, Irusk2 (3 games total)

It's Rasheth!
Howdy, folks! Another few reports today. I'm sorry to say that I do not have any reports from Tacticon, because Tacticon didn't happen. The events were canceled, and though I was very disappointed about it and the details surrounding it, I have decided not to dwell on it, and will give you no further information on the subject :)

The good news is that because Tacticon failed me, I was able to convince my wife into letting me go to a tournament this coming weekend in Denver. Should be fun. Then, the weekend after that, I will be going to the IMC. This ties in directly with why I'm writing these reports - I just wanted some experience with Cassius. Let's do the jump, after which I will explain a little better.

Warmachine Batrep #22: 50 Points Circle (Krueger2) vs. Skorne (Xerxis1) (with pictures!)

Xerxes, not Xerxis. Spelled it wrong up til today!
Howdy, folks! Another day, another report! Today I faced off against Leighanna (did I spell it right? My spell check says that I am clearly trying to spell "Ghanaian" haha) and her Skorne. She's still somewhat new to the faction, but has been playing for far longer than I have! Her stuff is getting painted at a pretty brisk pace, and I was excited to play against Xerxis1 again - he's a fun caster, and he does some pretty cool stuff.

In preparation for the upcoming tournament this weekend, I played Krueger2 again. I don't know if you've noticed, but he's been my go-to caster for a while now. Lots of fun to be had with him for a guy like me who loves scenario play. It may sound a little crazy, but I honestly feel like he might be a stronger overall caster than Morv2, due to the fact that he doesn't have any awful matchups. Time will tell if this is correct of course :)

Warmachine Batrep #19: 50 Points Circle (Cassius, Krueger2) vs. Cryx (Deneghra2) and Skorne (Mordikaar) (with pictures!)

Haha, what a badass. Not my model, btw.
Well folks, today I have two reports to talk about. My first game was against Deneghra2, and I decided I wanted to keep practicing with Cassius vs. Cryx. The next matchup was against Skorne, and I was happy to get some more practice in with Krueger2. Both players have been playing for a long time, and I was excited to finally get some games in after over a week of (admittedly awesome) vacation, where I didn't get any games in.

Let's dive in.

Warmachine Batrep #17: 50 Points Circle (Cassius, Kreuger2) vs. Skorne (Makeda2) and Khador (Sorscha2) (with pictures!)

This... is Cassius. Pre-Wurmwood, apparently.
Howdy, folks! Busy weekend for me, Warmachine-wise. On Saturday, I got two games in against the guy who gave me a drubbing in my last report (Josh) and his girlfriend (Leighanna). Sunday I played 3 more games in Denver, with the aim of learning about Cryx.

This report is for my first two games. I'll have another one up later, but I'll save that, since I'm going on vacation soon and won't be playing for over a week (*gasp*) and don't want to leave you all hanging for that long. Two should be enough to sate the three or so people who actually read this blog at any rate :)

My first game was actually against Leighanna's Skorne. She had gotten tired of eHexeris, and didn't feel like pulling out Xerxes either, so she asked if Makeda2 was alright. I'm not opposed to playing against Mak2, but I play her often, as she's my buddy Vince's favorite caster. However, she promised me that she took different stuff than Vince does, and I was likely just fine about it regardless, since I wanted to try my new Cassius list out anyways.

Warmachine Batrep #15: SR Tournament Report - 50 points, two casters (Circle- Morv2 + Baldur2) (with pictures!)

Bigger picture later in the report!
Howdy, everyone! Last weekend I went to a Warmachine tournament in Laramie, WY. It had 8 people attend, and I brought Circle Orboros.

I had initially wanted to take Baldur1 and Kreuger2, but I didn't have enough models painted, nor enough time to finish them all. Instead, I went for my already mostly-painted Morv2 list, and my incidentally-almost-painted Baldur2. It made sense as a list pairing, though I would have preferred Baldur1 + Kreuger2 for this particular event. Ah well. At least I got some experience with Morv2, who will more than likely make my 3-list Master's pairing.

Lists and pictures and reports after the jump!

Warmachine Batrep #14: 50 Points Circle (Baldur2) vs. Skorne (Hexeris2) (with pictures!)

So much win.
What's up, folks! I got a random (i.e. unexpected) game in at the LGS yesterday, and figured I'd post it up. I also have my lists for the tournament tomorrow that I wanted to clue you (and everyone who reads this blog and wants to meta me) in on them.

Really, just a fun post all around, despite it only being one report for one of the more boring casters in Circle.

However, it will be about 98% painted models (of mine), so that'll be fun, plus you'll get to see a sneak peak of one of my lists in action, which is also fun.

Also, check this coin out! I won it in 2010 at BoLSCON (which became Wargamescon, which is now Texas Games Con. I even wrote a really quick battle report for it. Fun to read it now and think "man, I know so much more than that now".

Here's the link to it, if interested. It's actually really close to the top.

Warmachine Batrep #11: 50 Points Circle vs. Skorne - Kreuger2 and Baldur1 vs. Makeda2 (with pictures!)

Howdy, folks! Just another Battle Report for some games I got in the other day. I'm just testing things out and slowly getting stuff painted, trying to get my lists ready for a 50-point tournament on July 26, and eventually gearing up for what I assume will be a fun (yet shameful) Feast of Blades.

That's right folks, I've decided to take the plunge - instead of playing 40k at Feast like in years past (I actually won the 40k tournament one year, and am therefore auto-qualified for all "finals" events for 40k), I will be playing an entirely different game system. For better or worse, I will be attending a major con for reasons other than 40k.

Madness.

These lists are representative of my efforts to get ready for FoB, having 3 full 50-point lists completely painted and ready, and potentially even getting a 4th list ready for Hardcore. Instead of practicing with "CrutchVahna", I'm working on other lists that I think may pair well with her in a 3-caster setting. I'm actually going to attempt an article talking about my own approach to pairings in the future, but for now, here are two reports :)

Warmachine Batrep #7: Circle Baldur2 vs. Cryx Gaspy1 then Skorne Xerxes1 35 points - Grow League Week 5 (with pictures!!)

Howdy, folks! Another couple batreps for you as our Grow League moves up to Week 5. I decided that while I enjoyed Baldur1 quite a bit, I also wanted to try out Baldur2. Because we were required to use our initial battle box force (Baldur1's was a Wold Guardian and Wold Warden), there were no other casters I felt comfortable taking with them.

We have been building toward getting 35 points and having zero restrictions, which I am really looking forward to. There is also a tournament coming up so that all us newbies can get thrashed by those tournament veterans who didn't want to play the grow league and instead show up for some easy prize support. That being said, I'm also looking forward to that. Lots of learning to be had at most tournaments, and I'm guessing that a Warmachine tournament will be even more instructional than normal!

Let's see how I did with my first spin with Baldur2 :)

Warmachine Batrep #6: Circle Baldur1 vs. Cryx, Mercs, and Skorne 25 points - Grow League Week 3 (with pictures!!)

Howdy folks! Today I've got Week 3 of my Journeyman Grow League for you! This week we went up to 25 points, though we are still not allowed to change our original battle box contents. I've been using Baldur1,  whose battleforce has two models: Wold Guardian and Wold Warden.

Week 2 allowed me to add a set of Shifting Stones + UA.

Week 3 (this week) I've added something I've really been excited to try out: Bloodtrackers + Nuala. Let's see how good they are/aren't after the break :)

Warmachine Batrep #5: Circle vs. Trolls, Menoth, and Skorne 15 Points - Grow League Week 2 (with pictures!)

Another day, another report! I will not likely be putting up reports this quickly in the future, but I've had some time to write them lately, and figured I may as well! It's fun for me to go back and read reports about games I played just after I started playing, just to see if I've gotten better or not, so these reports are pretty important to me personally. Hopefully they're helpful/fun to you as well!

Today was week 2 in our Journeyman Grow League in Fort Collins, CO. I have decided to play as Baldur1, who I initially thought of as a boring choice. I mean - who wants to play big slow dudes who have zero defense? Just doesn't seem very flexible to me, and I've never been a fan of attrition armies.

However, Baldur1 does give a lot of fun tactical flexibility. I need to work on some things with him (obviously), but there are lots more options with him than I had initially foreseen.  Let's see how I did: I got 3 games in, all of which were quite fun :)
