All Quiet on the Homefront

Well, it's been a little bit since I last posted, which is alright I suppose (give you few loyal readers a little bit of a breather) but today I figured I'd break my silence by posting up a list I've been painting on a little bit lately, and recently played a game with.

It's a Salamanders army, with one catch- no Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield Termies.  I know some people are huge fans of them, and it's hard to deny that they can really cause some damage, but when I started the army, I decided not to use them.  My decision didn't come from anything having to do with competitiveness, it was mostly just my annoyance with every Vulkan army out there including at least one Land Raider w/ Termies.  So, here's my alternate list:

Vulkan
Librarian w/ Null Zone and Avenger, Combi-Melta

10 Tactical Marines w/ Melta, Combi-Melta, Power Fist, Las Cannon, Razorback w/ HB
10 Tactical Marines w/ Melta, Combi-Melta, Power Fist, Las Cannon, Razorback w/ HB
10 Tactical Marines w/ Melta, Combi-Melta, Multi-Melta, Drop Pod w/ Locator Beacon
5 Scouts w/ Missile Launcher, Tellion
5 Scouts w/ Power Fist, Combi-Melta

Dreadnought w/ Heavy Flamer, Multi-Melta, Drop Pod w/ Locator Beacon
Dreadnought w/ Heavy Flamer, Multi-Melta, Drop Pod w/ Locator Beacon

2 Attack Bikes
3 Speeders w/ Heavy Flamer, Multi-Melta
Land Speeder Storm w/ Multi-Melta

Total Points:  1985 or so

So, 3 drop pods, lots of units that have the option to deep strike or not, and a Storm that could potentially help alpha strike a target if I need to.  It's kind of all over the place, isn't it, haha.  But on the serious side of things:  isn't it amazing how many things you can fit into a list without a Land Raider and Termies?

Here's the premise:  I have a lot of melta to help make sure there are no more vehicles, then I use Vulkan and the Tacticals to help clean up, after they've killed the majority of my army (who are in their face very quickly)

My glaring weakness as I see it, is my lack of anti-marine power.  Sure, I have a few heavy flamers that I can lay down (some) hurt with, and I have a few Fists that I could let loose if I felt like it, but in the end, I'm really not that sure how I would deal with a good Wolf army.

I guess as more of the same, I also sort of need some kind of combat power.  I have almost zero assault units, and Fists on sergeants just don't cut it anymore, sadly.

A few options I have:

-Take 'Avenger' off of my Librarian, and give him Gate of Infinity.  Used in conjunction with the Locator Beacons on the drop pod, this could give me super favorable results.

-Take the Fists off and give myself... something.  I want the Fist on the Scout sergeant, since I can alpha-strike with him, and hit vehicle's rear armor.

-Replace one Tactical Squad's Melta/Combi-Melta with a Flamer/Combi-flamer combo.  This would help greatly with dealing with Hordes, as this army isn't the best at that either, sadly lol.

-Take the Tellion Scouts out, since they aren't really doing anything too special, other than trying to snipe Sergeants out of squads.  I figure he'd be mighty useful against jump blood angels especially

It's a 'friendly' list that kills all the opponent's vehicles, then asks themselves 'now what.'  I'm not exactly sure what exactly I want to do with it, but I figured I'd post it on up.  Any suggestions that wouldn't require an enormous overhaul on the list?  Please... don't tell me I need TH/SS termies :-)

If I took out Telion's squad, and took off the 2 Tactical Fists, I have about 200 points to play around with.  Maybe more if you can talk me out of my (super fun) Storm w/ Scouts.  Go crazy!

No Termies :(

I think a big unit of Sternguard Podding in would be very handy. Add the Null Zone Libby and go to town on just about anything.
