Hey, I'm Xaereth, welcome to Delusions of Grandeur! This is a blog dedicated (mostly) to competitive play in miniature gaming. I used to play 40k competitively, but have since started to play Warmachine exclusively. Mostly just battle reports these days. We'll see if I ever make time for more. Heh.

Dark Elveses
I've been working like crazy on my Dark Elves, in order to get them ready for Tacticon in a few weeks. Lots of new models to paint, and they tend to take around an hour each. Here's a shot of the spearmen I've been working on, as well as the five crossbows that are finished to a level I like.

Tournaments
Here are the tournaments that I plan on playing in the near future:
'Ard Boyz Fantasy Prelims- Aug. 28
Tactic Con Warhammer 40k- Sep. 4
Tactic Con Warhammer Fantasy- Sep. 5
(If I qualify) 'Ard Boyz Fantasy Semi-Finals- Sep. 25
Clash for Colorado (Warmachine/Hordes)- TBD (last priority, unfortunately)
Guess we'll see what armies I take. I've been working a ton on my Dark Elves and Blood Angels, but who knows? My wolves are already finished, and it's easy to go down to 1850.
Just a short blurb tonight, count on battle reports and likely pictures for each event. Genghis should be fun, usually 40+ people at each tournament.

BoLSCON Tournament Report
Well, here it is, in all its beauty. This writeup will contain all 3 days of my tournament, including 5 (very very short) warmachine reports, 7 40k reports, and my overall thoughts of the tournament. Buckle in, because this is going to be a very long post.

Back from BoLSCON
Well I'm back! I got in late last night, and now I have work in an hour. I'm exhausted, but happy overall. 12 games later, I actually don't feel as burned out as I thought I would be. I'm still kinda sick of 40k, but whatcha gonna do?
Anyways, this is just a 'don't worry, I'm working on a longer post' post, so you don't think I'm just being lazy. Lots of pictures for my games (though not turn for turn, unfortunately). 6 great opponents in the 40k (because one I ended up playing twice in a row!) and a lot of fun (and educational!) games of Warmachine made the weekend a blast for me, though there were a few issues I had as well. I'll talk about those a little later.
I ended up taking home some prize support (and not just random door prize stuff), but you'll have to read my bigger post to find out how exactly I did.
Well, I'm off to eat, shave, and shower. Back to living the dream.

Random Blood Angels List
BoLSCON is tomorrow (I'm leaving for it tonight) but instead of more (mostly) incoherent rambling on my expectations, I instead figured I'd post up a BA list I've been playing around with. Here it is:

BoLSCON: Pre-Tournament Thoughts
On Wednesday, I'll be leaving with a few friends to drive down to sunny (which isn't really very relevant, since we'll be inside the whole time) Austin, TX for Wargames Con. Last year was a blast, and I really hope this year is as fun. To add to the excitement, they tacked on an extra one-day tournament (for me, Warmachine/Hordes) on Friday, so that by the end of the weekend, I'll have played 12 total games. Burned out is going to be a great way to put it :)

This Tournament Looks Awesome
The Nova Open
I wish I could go... but I'm spending the money to go to BoLSCON, which was an awesome time last year. Plus, it's already full, and yadda yadda. Next year though, I'd like to go. This is in my mind the way a tournament should be, with minor wins still being counted as wins (and actually meaning something more than a 'strong draw'), instead of preferring to massacre two games and lose one vs. getting 3 minor wins.

The (lackluster?) Warriors of Chaos
Like I've been saying, lots of thinking about Warriors of Chaos has been going on lately for me. Lots of lists, and lots of tweaks to them, before I've even played a single game of Fantasy in 8th.

A Random Warmachine Tournament
Last weekend my gaming store held a qualifying tournament for the impending 'Clash for Colorado' which is a tournament that happens every 6 months, with each gaming club sending their top 5 players to compete. I figured I'd throw down, despite the fact that I've hardly played in the past 3 or 4 months. Tournaments are always fun to attend, and I figured since I'd never tried a Steamroller format tournament, it could be cool. Plus, then I might be able to qualify for the actual 'big' tournament later this summer.

Fantasy and Dark Elves, revisited
Today I've decided not to talk about impending BoLSCON or Warriors of Chaos like I said I might talk about, and instead keep plugging away at my Dark Elf army, since Tacticon is in September, and I need to try to get it as 8th-ready as I can before I actually go.

More 8th Ed. Fantasy Musing
Well, despite all the models I still *really* need to paint for upcoming BoLSCON (heh, I heard they renamed it Wargames con now, for some reason? How dumb. I'll still call it BoLSCON... cuz that's what it is) I've been playing around with Fantasy lists a lot. Not just Dark Elves, but *gasp* Warriors of Chaos. The Warriors of Chaos will be discussed in my next post, I think.

There and back again- A gamers tale
So, I'm back, and I'll be posting more frequently now that the World Cup is dying down and BoLSCON approaches. Lots of things to talk about, I'm not sure I want to tackle it all with this one article tho. Among the things I want to talk about are my Wolves, and the new Warhammer: Fantasy rules (and how they'll affect my Dark Elves).

The Wolveses
Well, it's been quite a while since I posted here, and though I haven't finished FFIX yet, I've been rearing to get back into 40k stuff, so I guess I'll just dive in. Today I want to talk about the army I'm about to start- and indeed, have already started.

Final Fantasy IX
Well, Final Fantasy 9 has apparently taken my life over and has really cut into my blogging time. Heh, I'm currently near the end of Disk 3 (out of 4 discs) so once it's finally beaten (it's the only original Playstation 1 Final Fanatasy I haven't beat) I'll start posting more, including my plans for a new army, and how I hope it's going to work out, lol. Alright, take it easy!

All Quiet on the Homefront
Well, it's been a little bit since I last posted, which is alright I suppose (give you few loyal readers a little bit of a breather) but today I figured I'd break my silence by posting up a list I've been painting on a little bit lately, and recently played a game with.

Inefficient Angels
The new Blood Angels codex has been out for a while now, and I've decided that it plays decidedly differently from the way the old one played. Perhaps this seems like an obvious observation, but to me, it wasn't at first, really. I want to outline what I think is different, and the direction it seems that Blood Angels will be headed in a competitive setting.

Failure to not fail
Here's the list I took:

Weekend Games
Between Thursday, Friday, and Saturday last weekend, I managed to play 4 games at 2500 points with my Blood Angels. I've been studying like crazy for finals these last couple days, which is why I haven't really posted much except for the random flamer Tactica, but now that those are over (3 finals on Monday is brutal!) I have time to give recaps on the games I played. Be forewarned- this is a pretty long post.

Burnination
Lately I've been noticing a lot of flamer love, and it seems like a lot of it is somewhat misguided. Flamers have a pretty specific use in competitive 40k, as I see it. This is a mini-tactica on how I think flamers should be used, and when they aren't going to be worth it.

Blood Angels vs. Khan Termies?
Well, I played another game with my Blood Angels, this time against Vince's double-raider list with Khan and Termies. It's a tough list to play against, especially in 2500, where he has the points to field 10 las cannons. I'll give an overview of each turn, and my thoughts. In the end, I made a few bad mistakes, but I think I'm getting better.
